Open Question: What is available for non-active Military Insurance after 4 years of service?

My husband is currently active in the Marines and we have TriCare insurance that covers me as well. His four years will be up March 2011 and he is not re-enlisting. My job does not offer insurance benefits so we have been using his. Is there any kind of transition period for us to find our own heath insurance? We have also heard rumors that once he is out we will have the option to purchase TriCare for up to two years..... is this true? And VA insurance - so confusing!! How do you know if you qualify?
